Halloween preparations

Carving the pumpkins - Alexis helped by scooping out the seeds and pumpkin but this did get old after awhile and quite messy...daddy finished off all 3 pumpkins for us.
Alexis proud of the pumpkins she is working on...she wanted to do a castle (since we are heading there in a month) and I did Cinderella (she picked that one to). More later on which one daddy chose...

Alexis with the 3 finished products...she is standing behind her castle that she did help to carve - yes, she actually used the cutter and made some pretty good cuts. She also helped me poke the holes to mark the design before we started carving.

Here is the castle and Cinderella...

And daddy chose Hannibal Lecter...it actually turned out pretty good...Alexis actually said it was the best one.

Next we prepared for Grandmom and Pappy Fillman and Aunt Michele to visit for Halloween. Alexis wanted to make a cake so we made a 3 layer checkerboard cake. Alexis' favorite part was icing all 3 layers of the cake and decorating it with Halloween sprinkles.

Finishing the top layer...

And here is the finished product with all of the sprinkles. I know it is a little lopsided but it stayed together and everyone loved it. Alexis also helped to make pumpkin bread and pumpkin and ghost cookies (those were the easy Pillbury ones but everyone enjoyed them).

Lastly, we had to buy a ton of candy (almost literally) to handle the trick or treat crowd in our Stapleton neighborhood. We bought about 10 of those huge bags and we went through it all...they were busing the kids in...
